Director’s From The 1960’s

Good Evening all! And welcome back to my Twelfth blog. Today I’m going to be talking about directors from the 1960’s. The directors I’m going to be talking about Billy Wilder, Robert Wise and David Lean.

Billy Wilder (picture above) was an Austrian / American filmmaker, screenwriter, producer, artist, and journalist. He directed movies such as ‘Casino Royale’, Ocean’s 11 and ‘The Fortune Cookie’.

‘Casino Royale’ James Bond came out of retirement to take on Smersh. ‘Ocean’s 11’ Danny Ocean decided to gather a group of his World War II citizens to pull off the conclusive Las Vegas heist. Together the eleven friends plan to rob five Las Vegas casinos in one night. ‘The Fortune Cookie’ A corrupt lawyer makes his brother-in-law fake a serious injury.

Robert Wise was an American film director, producer and editor. He directed films like ‘The Sound Of Music’, ‘West Side Story’ and ‘The Sand Pebbles’. ‘The Sound Of Music’ is about a woman who leaves a convent in Austria to become a tutor to a Naval officer’s children. ‘West Side Story’ Two youngsters from rival New York City gangs fall in love, but tension builds between their friends.

‘The Sound Of Pebbles’ a U.S. Naval engineer gets assigned to a gunboat on a rescue mission in China.

David Lean was an English film director, producer, screenwriter and editor. He directed picture just like The Greatest Story Ever Told’, ‘Lawrence of Arabia’, and ‘Doctor Zhivago’.

‘The Greatest Story Ever Told’ this film illustrates the life and ministry of Jesus Christ.

‘Lawrence Of Arabia’ this picture tells the story of T.E. Lawrence who was an English Officer who triumphantly united and led the diverse, Arab tribes during World War I in order to fight the Turks.

‘Doctor Zhivago’ Is about a Russian Physician and poet who falls for a political activist’s wife whilst already married. He experiences hardship during the First World War and also during the October Revolution.
