Female Singers Of The 1970’s

Good morning all! And welcome back to my Fourteenth blog. Today I’m going to be talking about female singers from the 1970’s. The female singers I’m going to be talking about are ‘Olivia-Newton John’, ‘Kate Bush’, and ‘Gloria Gaynor’.

‘Olivia-Newton John’ Olivia Newton-John (picture above) is an Australian / English singer, activist, actress, songwriter and entrepreneur. She sang songs such as ‘Deeper Than The Night’, ‘Let Me Be There’, and ‘It’s Not For You’. Her genre was ‘Country Music’ and ‘POP’. She’s had her challenges with breast cancer but has come out strong. She played ‘Sandy’ in Grease the musical which became a very famous and popular musical in the 1970’s and is even popular to this day.

‘Kate Bush’ Kate Bush is an English singer, record producer and songwriter. At the age of nineteen she topped the UK Singles Chart for four weeks with her first single ‘Wuthering Heights’. She became the first female artist of the UK to achieve a UK number one for ‘Wuthering Heights’ which she wrote herself. She had songs like ‘Wow’, ‘The Man With The Child In His Eyes’, and ‘Them Heavy People’. ‘Pop Rock’, ‘Art Rock’, ‘Baroque Rock’ ‘Art Pop’, and ‘Experimental Pop’.

‘Gloria Gaynor’ Gloria Gaynor is an American singer. She sang songs like ‘I Will Survive’, ‘Let Me Know’ and ‘Anybody Wanna Party?’ Her most famous song is ‘I Will Survive’ and it is used for the ads to help you quit smoking. Her genre is ‘disco’ and ‘Rhythm and Blues’.

One of the top hits for the Female Singers of the 1970’s was ‘Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves’ by Cher which spent 2 weeks at No.1 November 6th 1971.

Male Bands of the 1970’s

Good morning all! And welcome back to my thirteen blog. Today I’m going to be talking about male bands from the 1970’s. The male bands I’m going to be talking about are ‘Queen’, ‘Talking Heads’, and ‘The Bee Gees’

Queen (picture above) are a British rock band formed in London in 1970. The band members names were ‘Freddie Mercury (Lead Vocalist), John Deacon (Bass Guitarist), Roger Taylor (Drummer) and Brian May ( Electric Guitarist).

They sang songs like ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’ and ‘We Will Rock You’. They were an extremely famous band and still are to this day. They made history when they released a 6 minute song which was unheard of the 70’s. That song was Bohemian Rhapsody. They added different genres into that song such as pop/rock section, operatic section and a rock section. They were and still are a very talented group. Sadly Freddie Mercury passed away from AIDS on November 24th 1991. The life story of Freddie Mercury alongside the band ‘Queen’ in the film called ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ that was released on DVD on 2nd March in Ireland.

Talking heads were an American band formed in New York City in 1975. They were active until 1991. The band members names were ‘David Byrne’, ‘Chris Frantz’, ‘Tina Weymouth’, and ‘Jerry Harrison’. They released songs such as a ‘Psycho Killer’, ‘Life During Wartime’, and ‘I Zimbra’. They were a very famous band in the 1970’s onwards.

‘The Bee Gees’ were a pop group and they were formed in 1958. They were all brothers and their names are ‘Barry Gibb’, ‘Robin Gibb’, and ‘Maurice Gibb’. They released songs like ‘Stayin’ Alive’, ‘Night Fever’, and ‘How Deep Is Your Love’. They were a very successful band in the early 1970’s. They then became the performers of the disco music era in the mid and late 1970’s.

‘Barry Gibb’ is the only brother alive to this day. ‘Robin Gibb’ passed away May 20th 2012. ‘Maurice Gibb’ passed away January 12th 2003.
One of the top hits for the bands in the 1970’s were ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ by Simon & Garfunkel reached no.1 February 28th 1970 and it spent 6 weeks at No.1.

Director’s From The 1960’s

Good Evening all! And welcome back to my Twelfth blog. Today I’m going to be talking about directors from the 1960’s. The directors I’m going to be talking about Billy Wilder, Robert Wise and David Lean.

Billy Wilder (picture above) was an Austrian / American filmmaker, screenwriter, producer, artist, and journalist. He directed movies such as ‘Casino Royale’, Ocean’s 11 and ‘The Fortune Cookie’.

‘Casino Royale’ James Bond came out of retirement to take on Smersh. ‘Ocean’s 11’ Danny Ocean decided to gather a group of his World War II citizens to pull off the conclusive Las Vegas heist. Together the eleven friends plan to rob five Las Vegas casinos in one night. ‘The Fortune Cookie’ A corrupt lawyer makes his brother-in-law fake a serious injury.

Robert Wise was an American film director, producer and editor. He directed films like ‘The Sound Of Music’, ‘West Side Story’ and ‘The Sand Pebbles’. ‘The Sound Of Music’ is about a woman who leaves a convent in Austria to become a tutor to a Naval officer’s children. ‘West Side Story’ Two youngsters from rival New York City gangs fall in love, but tension builds between their friends.

‘The Sound Of Pebbles’ a U.S. Naval engineer gets assigned to a gunboat on a rescue mission in China.

David Lean was an English film director, producer, screenwriter and editor. He directed picture just like The Greatest Story Ever Told’, ‘Lawrence of Arabia’, and ‘Doctor Zhivago’.

‘The Greatest Story Ever Told’ this film illustrates the life and ministry of Jesus Christ.

‘Lawrence Of Arabia’ this picture tells the story of T.E. Lawrence who was an English Officer who triumphantly united and led the diverse, Arab tribes during World War I in order to fight the Turks.

‘Doctor Zhivago’ Is about a Russian Physician and poet who falls for a political activist’s wife whilst already married. He experiences hardship during the First World War and also during the October Revolution.

Male Actors From The 1960’s


Good Afternoon all! And welcome back to my Eleventh blog. Today I’m going to be talking about famous actors from the 1960’s. The actors I’m going to be focusing on are Robert Mitchum, Cary Grant and Burt Lancaster.

Robert Mitchum (picture above) was a handsome man in the 1960’s. He was an American Film Actor, Director, Author, Poet, Composer and Singer. He looks a lot like Dean Martin. He was in films such as ‘Home From The Hill’, ‘Five Card Stud’ and ‘Secret Ceremony’. ‘Home From The Hill’ tells a Dramatic story of a Prominent Hunnicutt family set in Texas during the late 1950s.

‘Five Card Stud’ The players who are involved in an ongoing poker game are being mysteriously murdered one individual at a time. ‘Secret Ceremony’ is a psychological Thriller telling the story of a woman who is broke who meets a peculiar girl who demands she is her long-lost mother. This poor woman gets entangled in deceit and insanity.

Cary Grant is an actor and dancer. He starred in pictures such as ‘Charade’ ‘Father Goose’ and ‘That Touch Of Mink’.

‘Charade’ Tells the story of A woman who is in Paris and is being chased by several men which eventually turns into romance and suspense who want substances her murdered husband had stolen from her. But who can she trust?

‘Father Goose’ During world War II a gentleman was made to settle on an isolated island and he spots aircraft. But he then finds himself responsible for several students and a teacher who are all female.

‘That Touch Of Mink’ Contrast occurs when a young woman becomes attracted to a businessman only to find that he wants an affair and she wants marriage.
Burt Lancaster was a famous American actor and producer. He was in movies such as ‘The Unforgiven’, ‘Birdman Of Alcatraz’ and ‘The Scalp hunters’.

‘The Unforgiven’ The neighbours of a partition family turn on them when they think that their adopted daughter was abducted from the local Kiowa Tribe.

‘Birdman Of Alcatraz’ A convicted murderer is kept in permanent isolation until He eventually redeems himself when he becomes a bird expert.

‘The Scalp hunters’ Forced to trade his furs for an educated slave who escaped, a tough huntsman makes a commitment to recover pelts from the Indians and later the betrayers that killed him.

Female Actresses From The 1960’s

Good morning all! And welcome back to my tenth blog. Today I’m going to be talking about famous actresses from the 1960’s. The actresses I’m going to be discussing are Elizabeth Taylor, Maureen O’Hara and Shirley MacLaine.
Elizabeth Taylor was a stunning looking woman. She was very famous in the 1960’s. She is best known for her role as ‘Cleopatra’. She starred in many movies from the 1960’s such as ‘Cleopatra’, ‘The Taming Of The Shrew’ and ‘The Sandpiper’. ‘Cleopatra was best known as the Queen of Egypt. She then encountered both conquer and calamity as she tries to resist monarchical ambitions of Rome.

‘The Taming Of The Shrew’ ’ is about a scoundrel names Petruchio who learns to subdue his wealthy, shrewish wife, Katharina. ‘The Sandpiper’ a single mother forms a relationship with the wed principal of a boarding school run by bishops in California.

Maureen O’Hara (picture above) is a very famous Irish actress. She was born in Ranelagh a village on the south side of Dublin. She supported Shamrock Rovers!She starred in movies such as ‘The Parent Trap’, ‘Mr Hobbs Takes A Vacation’, and ‘Spencer’s Mountain’.

‘The Parent Trap’ tells the story of twin juvenile sisters who swap places to try and reunite their detached parents. They made a remake of the movie in 1998 starring ‘Lindsay Lohan’ who played the twin teenage sisters trying to reunite their detached parents together.

‘Mr. Hobbs Takes A Vacation’ Mr. Hobbs wants to have a quiet getaway at the beach but, his wife invites their family to stay with them.

‘Spencer’s Mountainis about a man named clay spencer who is a diligent man. He is cherished by his neighbours and is always ready to help them in any way that he can. His one dream in life is to construct his wife a house on a piece of land he took over on ‘Spencer Mountain’, tells the story of when his eldest son, Clay boy, graduates at the peak of his high school class and has the chance to go to college, Clay has only one option left to him.

‘Shirley MacLaine’ was a very famous actress in the 1960’s. She was very good friends with ‘Dean Martin.’ ‘Shirley MacLaine’  is an actress, singer, dancer, activist and author. She was in films such as ‘The Children’s Hour’,  ‘Irma La Douce’, and ‘The Apartment’.

‘Sweet Charity’ Charity is a taxi dancer who wishes she would meet a pleasant young man who would come along and romance her away from her immoral lifestyle. May be, just maybe, Oscar will be the one to do it.

‘Irma La Douce’ a policeman in Paris falls head over heels with a gigolo. He endeavours to get her out of that lifestyle by paying for all of her time.

‘The Apartment’story of a man who’s trying to grow within his company by allowing its senior administrator use his apartment for an engagement, but problems and a romance of his own arise.

Female Singers From The 1960’s

Hi all and welcome back to my ninth blog! Today I am going to be talking about female singers from the 1960’s. The female singers I’m going to be talking about are ‘Patsy Cline’, ‘Brenda Lee’, ‘Ella Fitzgerald’ and ‘Fontella Bass’. Firstly, I’m going to talk about is ‘Patsy Cline’.

Patsy Cline (picture above) was a very famous singer in the late 50’s early 60s’. She had a lovely distinctive tone to her voice. She had songs such as ‘She’s Got You’, ‘Crazy’, and ‘Leavin’ On Your Mind’. Her genre was Nashville Sound Country and Traditional Pop. She sadly died in a fatal plane crash alongside Hawkshaw Hawkins, Cowboy Copa’s and Randy Hughes.

Brenda Lee was a very well known singer in the 1960’s. She had songs like ‘I  Wanted To Be Wanted’, ‘Rock Around The Christmas Tree’ and ‘All Alone Am I’. Her genre was Rock and Roll, Pop, Rockabilly, and Country. She is still alive to this day. She is now 74 years old.

Ella Fitzgerald was known as the American Jazz singer. She was either referred to as the ‘Queen Of Jazz’, ‘First Lady Of Song’ Or ‘Lady Ella’. She sang songs like ‘Summertime’, ‘Ev’ry Time We Say Goodbye’, and ‘It’s Only A Paper Moon’ Her genre was Vocal Jazz, Swing, Blues, Traditional Pop Music and Bebop. She was a legend in her time.

Fontella bass was a singer in the 1960’s. She sang songs like ‘Rescue Me’, Leave It In The Hands Of Love’ and ‘Oh No! Not My Baby’ as well as talking she could play the piano. She performed alongside ‘The Supremes’, ‘ Dionne Warwick’, and ‘David Peaston’. Her genre was Soul, R&B and Pop.

One of the top hits in the 1960’s for the female singers were ‘You’re My World (Il Mio Mondo) By Cilla Black and it spent 4 weeks at no.1 on 28th May 1964.

Male Singers From The 1960’s

Hi all and welcome back to my eighth blog! Today I am going to be talking about male singers from the 1960’s. The male singer I’m going to talk about first is Roy Orbison. Roy Orbison (picture above) was very famous in the 1960’s he had classics like ‘Only The Lonely’, ‘Crying’, and ‘Running Scared’. The singers style was ‎Rock and Roll, Rock, Rockabilly, Country and Pop. He was very popular amongst the women.

Louis Armstrong was a prominent figure in the 1960’s. He played ‘King Louis’ in ‘The Jungle Book’. He released songs like ‘What a Wonderful World’, ‘Bout Time’ and ‘Hello Dolly’ He was well known for playing the cornet and trumpet. His style was ‎Dixieland‎, Jazz, Swing and Traditional Pop. He was a very famous artist.

Paul Anka was a well known singer in the 1960’s as well as the 1950’s and 1970’s. He sang songs such as ‘Medley’, ‘Oh Carol’, and ‘Puppy Love’. He was a very talented musician. He wrote ‘My Way’ for Frank Sinatra and wrote ‘It Doesn’t Matter Anymore’ for Buddy Holly which he got to record just before he died in 1959. Paul Anka became one of the biggest teen idols At the age of 17 in 1958. His style was Soft Rock, Jazz, and Doo-Wop.

Van Morrison was a very well known sensation in the 1960’s. He released remarkable songs such as ‘Brown Eyed Girl’, ‘Sweet Thing’  and ‘Madame George’. He was a very talented musician in the early 1960’s and is still going strong at the age of 73. His song ‘Brown Eyed Girl’ was featured in the 1991 movie ‘Sleeping With The Enemy’ starring  Julia Roberts and Patrick Bergin.

One of the top hits in the 1960’s for the male singers were ‘It’s Now Or Never ‘by Elvis Presley which spent five weeks at no.1. It reached no.1 on august 15th 1960.

                 Female Bands of the 1960’s

Hi all And welcome back to my seventh blog! Today I’m going to be talking female bands from the 1960’s. There’s a few bands I’m going to discuss. They were very stylish during their career in the 1960’s. The first band is ‘The Ronettes’ (picture above). Their names were Ronnie Spector, Nedra Talley and Estelle Bennett. They had hits like ‘Be My Baby’, ‘Chapel Of Love’, and ‘I Can Hear Music’.  The bands style was pop music.

‘The Supremes’ were a very famous band in the 1960’s. They were the premier act of Motown. They were a very elegant band. They sang songs such as ‘Baby Love’, ‘Love Child’ and ‘Reflections’. Diana Ross was the lead singer of The Supremes’. Diana later became a famous solo artist.The names of the other members of the band were Cindy Birdsong, Mary Wilson, and Florence Ballard. The bands style was Rhythm and Blues, Doo-Wop, Soul Music, Pop Music and Disco.

‘Martha Reeves’ were a girl group in the 1960’s. They achieved their fame from ‘Motown’. Their names were Annette Beard, Martha Reeves, Rosalind Ashford and Betty Kelly. They had hits such as ‘Wild One’, ‘Live Wire’ and ‘Dancing Slow’. The bands style was R&B, Soul and Pop. They were a fashionable band.

‘The Cookies’ were a famous band from the 1960’s. The band members names were Earl-Jean McCrea, Margie Hendrix, Margaret Ross and Dorothy Jones. They had many hits such as ‘I Want A Boy For My Birthday’, ‘Foolish, Little Girl’, and ‘The Old Crowd’. The bands style was Rhythm and Blues, Pop Music, and Soul Music. They were an elegant band.

One of the top hits in the 1960’s for the female bands were ‘As Long As I Know He’s Mine/Little Girl Blue’ by ‘The Marvelettes’ and was *47 in the top 100 billboard chart and that was in the year 1963.

1960’s bands

Hi all and welcome back to my sixth blog! Today I’m going to be talking about bands from the 1960’s male bands especially. Society began to change in the 1960’s it was an era of protest. There was the Civil Rights Movement, Hippies and the Vietnam war. There’s a few bands I’d like to talk about, The first band is Frankie Valli And The Four Seasons (picture above) . They had great hits like ‘Sherry’, ‘Walk Like A Man ’ and ‘Working My Way Back To You’. The bands style was rock, pop and disco. They were very popular in the 1960’s especially by their female followers.

‘The Temptations’ were also very popular during this time. They were a group in the 1960’s. They released great songs like ‘My Girl’, ‘Ain’t Too Proud To Beg’ and ‘I Want A Love I Can See’. The bands style was rhythm and blues, soul music, funk and Psychedelic soul.

‘The Beatles’ were such a phenomenon not only through their music but by their adoring fans. They were very popular especially by young females. They sang hits like ‘Twist and Shout’, ‘Yellow Submarine’ and ‘Here Comes The Son’. They were very talented musicians. The bands style was rock and pop music.

‘Running Bear’ by Johnny Presto was a no.1 hit in the year 1960.

1950’s Directors

Good Evening all! And welcome back to my fifth blog. Today I’m going to be talking about famous directors from the 1950’s. The directors I’m going to be focusing on are Alfred Hitchcock, William Wyler, and George Stevens.

Alfred Hitchcock (picture above) is a very famous director. Even to this day he is very well known. His most famous movies he directed are ‘Psycho’, ‘Vertigo’ and ‘The Birds’. ‘Psycho’ tells the tale of a Phoenix secretary who steals forty thousand dollars from her employer’s client . She flees to an isolated motel which is run by a young man under the control of his mother.

‘Vertigo’ tells the story of a police detective who is struggling with his personal demons alongside his obsession with a beautiful woman.
‘The Birds’ is about A wealthy San Francisco noble who chases a likely boyfriend to a small Northern California town that
slowly takes a turn for the worst when birds of all kinds suddenly begin to attack people.

William Wyler is a famous director. His movies are well known. He directed movies such as ‘Mrs. miniver’, ‘The Desperate Hours’ and ‘Detective story’. ‘Mrs. Miniver’ is about a British family who fight to survive the first months of World War 2. ‘The desperate hours’ tells the story of three convicts who escaped and they torment a suburban family. Last but not least ‘Detective story’ tells the narrative that one day in the 21st precinct squad room, diverse individuals form a scene for the detective Jim McLeod.

George Stevens is a famous film director, producer, screenwriter and cinematographer. His movies are quite famous. He directed movies such as ‘Something To Live For’, ‘Shane’ and ‘The Diary Of Anne Frank’. ‘Something To Live For’ Tells the story of an actress who becomes an alcoholic after being abandoned. She falls in love with an alcoholics anonymous whom she has an affair with even though he’s married. ‘Shane’ is about a worn out gunfighter who attempts to settle down with a homestead family whilst a seething rancher dispute forces him to act. ‘The Diary Of Anne Frank’ illustrates how a Jewish girl named Anne frank who was demanded to go into hiding with her family so they wouldn’t be sent to the concentration camps by the Nazis who inhabited the Netherlands at this time.
